Good afternoon, FES families!

Thank you to everyone who supported our students during today's Walk-a-Thon! Whether you volunteered your time, donated to support our fundraising efforts, or came out to cheer on our walkers and runners, you helped make the day a tremendous success. We are grateful for the incredible support of our school community.

We celebrated many of our students last night at our Multilingual Assembly. It was a joyful event. Thank you to all the families who showed up to celebrate.

Students are also wrapping up their final round of i-Ready testing. Results will be sent home with students' final report cards so families can celebrate the growth and progress made throughout the year.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

For us to continue to improve as a school district and as a school, it is important for us to understand stakeholder perceptions about the job we are doing in providing a quality education for all our children. We are seeking information through an 8–10-minute survey that is available now through date May 8th.

To access the survey, visit: https://ceeffectiveness.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_74KBAjdemxMiTVs

o Choose your language preference on the opening page of the survey.

o Select your child’s school. If you have children in multiple schools, complete one survey per child.

o Complete the survey and click submit.

The information that we receive will be reported back to us as a building. This feedback gives us valuable information to support our building’s School Improvement Plans and all our students.

We value your input as we strive to continue to improve our school.

Thank you for your feedback.

Stay connected and never miss an important update by downloading the Quillayute Valley SD app. Our live feed notifications make it easy to receive real-time information from the district/school about announcements, events, and more. By enabling notifications on your device, you can stay informed wherever you are.

Follow the simple steps below to set up notifications and ensure you’re always in the loop with what’s happening in the district or a school building.

Quick overview::
When your first download the school app, you must tap "Allow" when the notification prompt appears.

If your missed that step, you can enable it in phone settings:
iPhone: Settings → search for the school app → Notifications → toggle "Announce Notifications".
Android: Settings → Notifications → App notifications → find the school app → enable notifications.

Inside the app you can also adjust preferences: More → Settings (gear) → Notification preferences and select the groups they want notifications from.

Once enabled, push notifications appear as alerts on your phone and show a badge in the app for unread messages.

Good afternoon families,

As you know, QVSD has had threatening messages the last two Wednesdays in a row. These messages led to lockdowns as a precautionary measure to ensure student safety. Out of an abundance of caution, the district will have law enforcement present on all three campuses throughout the day tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning, I will let students know that officers are here to check in on us and help ensure that everyone remains safe throughout the day. I wanted to share this information with families ahead of time so you are not surprised by their presence and so you have the opportunity to have a proactive conversation with your child if you choose.

Since last week’s lockdown, I have investigated several reports of potential threats. At this time, none have been determined to be credible threats. I will continue to take all reports seriously, investigate them thoroughly, and respond according to our discipline matrix and safety procedures.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Respectfully,
Sarah Decker

FES Families,
Today, we celebrated courage at our Puddle Jumper Assembly. I am incredibly proud of how all of your children demonstrated courage throughout the week.
The PTO handed out Walk-a-thon packets today- this is the PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Thank you to our PTO for all they do for our students throughout the school year. This week, they hosted the Reptile Lady assemblies and the book fair. These were wonderful opportunities for our students and we are so appreciative of them!
Early release Wednesdays have now concluded. School will be dismissed at 3:15 each day for the remainder of the year.
Wishing you a relaxing weekend and some time to enjoy the sunshine.
Respectfully,

FES Families,

As you know, on Wednesday at 10:28, Forks Elementary was placed in lockdown because a handwritten note was found at the communal bathroom sink in our building. I want to let you know that the student responsible has been identified. This student is being held accountable for their actions in accordance with our discipline procedures that follow OSPI and Washington State law requirements.

In my role as the principal, I am entrusted with the care of your children every day, and their safety is my top priority. This means I am compelled to take every potential threat seriously. I know that the lockdown on Wednesday, directly after a similar situation the week prior, was unsettling for everyone involved, most importantly your children. I am grateful for law enforcement’s quick response and their help in assessing the level of threat and next steps. I am also grateful for the staff, who ensured that all students were not only safe and accounted for, but also cared for and supported during the lockdown.

Yesterday, teachers held space for students to talk and debrief about the lockdown at developmentally appropriate levels based on their students’ needs. I spent the morning checking in on classrooms, answering questions and speaking to student concerns. Our counselor was onsite to talk with students. If you or your child would like additional support, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher or me.

Thank you for your continued trust. I remind students daily that my most important job is to keep them safe, and that commitment is shared by every staff member at FES.

Respectfully,

Sarah Decker, principal of FES

Good afternoon, FES families,
As you know, each month we practice safety drills to ensure our students and staff are prepared to respond in an emergency. I am incredibly proud of how our students responded on Wednesday during the lockdown—they followed directions and did exactly what they were supposed to do. Our staff did an amazing job of ensuring every student was safe and cared for to the best of their ability given the circumstances.
You may have noticed that I did not send additional building communication earlier this week. Mrs. Reaume has been sharing unified district updates, and I wanted to ensure consistent messaging for all families. Yesterday, I spent time in classrooms checking in with students, answering questions, and providing support. If you or your child need additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
When you are using our parking lot, remember to follow all traffic laws. Be mindful of your speed and surroundings, and obey the stop signs.
Our lost and found is full. If your child is missing clothing, make sure to check. We will be clearing out current items at the beginning of the month.
Looking ahead to next week:
Spring Book Fair all week: Book Fair family night, Tuesday, April 28, from 5:00-7:00 PM
TK & Kindergarten Registration: Tuesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 30, from 5:00–7:00 PM at FES (see attached flyers for details)
Reptile Lady Event: Wednesday, April 29 at 6:00 PM. Families are welcome to attend. Suggested donation is $2 per person. Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this event!
Early Release: Wednesday, April 29 — dismissal at 2:15 PM (last early release of the year)
Puddle Jumper Assembly (Courage): Friday, May 1
ECEAP–1st Grade: 2:15–2:40 PM
2nd–4th Grade: 2:45–3:05 PM
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Good afternoon, FES families,

It was a great week at FES. There is great learning happening in every room I walk through.
Please ensure that toys and valuables stay at home, as they can be a distraction during the school day.
For student pick-up in the Yellow Zone, please notify the office in advance if someone other than a parent/guardian will be picking up your child. If we are unable to verify the adult, they will be asked to park and check in at the office. This helps us maintain a safe and secure dismissal process for all students.

Upcoming:
Wednesday, April 17 – Early release; students dismissed at 2:15
TK & Kindergarten Registration – Evenings of Tuesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 30. More information will be shared early next week

Have a wonderful weekend!
